Cumberland Gap FFA Member Earns Sheep Production

John Edwards earned first-place honors in the Tennessee Association FFA Sheep Production Proficiency Award area during the 85th Tennessee State FFA Convention on March 26.

The sheep production proficiency award is designed to recognize students who are involved in a supervised agricultural experience in which the student owns the enterprise or works for a business that includes the best management practices available to efficiently produce and market sheep, sheep products and wool.

The Cumberland Gap FFA member’s agricultural education instructors and FFA advisors are Dan Pearman, Raymond Hall, and Wade Breeding. This award is sponsored on the state level by the Tennessee Department of Agriculture- Ag Tag Fund.

Portland FFA Member Earns Poultry Production Proficiency Award

Spencer Sanders of the Portland FFA Chapter earned first-place honors in the Tennessee Association FFA Poultry Production Proficiency Award area during the 85th Tennessee State FFA Convention on March 26.

The poultry production proficiency award is designed to recognize students who are involved in a supervised agricultural experience in which the student owns the enterprise or works for a business that includes the best management practices available to efficiently produce and market chickens, turkeys, domestic fowls such as ducks, geese and guinea and their products.

The Portland FFA member’s agricultural education instructors and FFA advisors are Amy Barnett and Terry Shartzer. This award is sponsored on the state level by the Tennessee Poultry Association and LUBING Systems.

Covington FFA Member Earns Outdoor Recreation Proficiency Award

Cody Smith of the Covington FFA Chapter earned first-place honors in the Tennessee Association FFA Outdoor Recreation Proficiency Award area during the 85th Tennessee State FFA Convention on March 26.

The outdoor recreation proficiency award is designed to recognize students who are involved in a supervised agricultural experience in which the student owns the enterprise or works for a business that develops outdoor recreational activities best suited to family use or as income-producing enterprises. These enterprises could include vacation cabins and cottages, camping and picnic areas, fishing, hunting, water sports, winter sports, shooting preserves, guide services, riding stables, trail rides, vacation farms and guest ranches, natural scenic or historic areas and rodeo events where the member does not own or manage animals.

The Covington FFA member’s agricultural education instructors and FFA advisors are Bryan Cole, Elizabeth Flanagan and Jeremiah Johnson. This award is sponsored on the state level by F&M Bank.

Covington FFA Member Earns Grain Production Placement Proficiceny Award

Scott Crawford of the Chuckey Doak FFA Chapter earned first-place honors in the Tennessee Association FFA Nursery Operations Proficiency Award area during the 85th Tennessee State FFA Convention on March 26.

The nursery operations proficiency award is designed to recognize students who are involved in a supervised agricultural experience in which the student owns the enterprise or works for a business that provides students with job-entry experience in areas such as turf, plants, shrubs or tree production for the purpose of transplanting or propagation. This could include water garden plants if produced for sale.

The Chuckey Doak FFA member’s agricultural education instructor and FFA advisor is Stena Meadows. This award is sponsored on the state level by the Turner and Sons Nursery.

Robert Twardzik of the Hendersonville FFA Chapter earned first-place honors in the Tennessee Association FFA Landscape Management Proficiency Award area during the 85th Tennessee State FFA Convention on March 26.

The landscape management proficiency award is designed to recognize students who are involved in a supervised agricultural experience in which the student owns the enterprise or works for a business that includes experiences of planting and maintaining plants and shrubs, landscaping and outdoor beautification, grounds keeping, sprinkler installations and improvement of recreational areas.

The Hendersonville FFA member’s agricultural education instructors and FFA advisors are Amy Rickman, Jill Shrum, Karl Wenzel, and Steve Stphens. This award is sponsored on the state level by the Tennessee FFA Foundation.

Halls FFA Member Earns Grain Production Entrepreneurship Proficiency Award

Logan Meeks of the Halls FFA Chapter earned first-place honors in the Tennessee Association FFA Grain Production Entrepreneurship Proficiency Award area during the 85th Tennessee State FFA Convention on March 26.

The grain production entrepreneurship proficiency award is designed to recognize students who are involved in a supervised agricultural experience in which the student owns an enterprise that applies the best management practices available to efficiently produce and market crops for grain production such as corn, barley, millet, buckwheat, oats, grain, sorghum, milo, wheat, rice and rye.

The Halls FFA member’s agricultural education instructors and FFA advisors are Windy Willette and Clair Hammond. This award is sponsored on the state level by the Tennessee Feed and Grain Association.

Bledsoe FFA Member Earns Goat Production Proficiency Award

Tina Sullivan of the Bledsoe FFA Chapter earned first-place honors in the Tennessee Association FFA Goat Production Proficiency Award area during the 85th Tennessee State FFA Convention on March 26.

The goat production proficiency award is designed to recognize students who are involved in a supervised agricultural experience in which the student owns an enterprise or works for a business that includes the best management practices available to efficiently produce and market goats and all goat products.

The Beledsoe FFA member’s agricultural education instructor and FFA advisor is Ronny Collier. This award is sponsored on the state level by Land O’Lake- Purina Feed.

Warren County FFA Member Earns Fruit Production Proficiency Award

John Adam Turner of the Warren County FFA Chapter earned first-place honors in the Tennessee Association FFA Fruit Production Proficiency Award area during the 85th Tennessee State FFA Convention on March 26.

The fruit production proficiency award is designed to recognize students who are involved in a supervised agricultural experience in which the student owns an enterprise or works for a business that includes the best management practices available to efficiently produce and market crops for fruits such as stone fruits, pome fruits, citrus fruits, pineapples, coconuts, berries, watermelon, grapes, nuts and all common fruits.

The Warren County FFA member’s agricultural education instructors and FFA advisors are Danielle Smith, David Upton Kim Townsend Miller, and Shannon Ford. This award is sponsored on the state level by the Florida Indian River Groves.

Tazewell FFA Member Earns Forest Management and Products Proficiency Award

Matthew Seals of the Tazewell FFA Chapter earned first-place honors in the Tennessee Association FFA Forest Management and Products Proficiency Award area during the 85th Tennessee State FFA Convention on March 26.

The forest management and products proficiency award is designed to recognize students who are involved in a supervised agricultural experience in which the student owns an enterprise or works for a business that includes the best management practices available to conserve or increase the economic value of a forest or forest products through such practices as thinning, pruning, weeding, stand improvement, reforestation, insect and disease control, planting, harvesting, Christmas tree farming, making and selling cedar shakes and firewood, and wood chips/ mulch or working for the Forest Service.
